Micro-optical elements are ideally suited to integration with a wide range of optoelectronic devices. The dimensions of most micro-optical devices (especially refractive, diffractive and nanostructured microlenses) are closely matched to the standard pitches of optoelectronic devices such as photodetectors, micro-lasers, light emitting diodes and spatial light modulators.

We have experience in successfully integrating micro-optical elements with optoelectronic devices, at both the individual device and wafer-scale array level, giving a highly robust composite module with improved performance. The integration of a 100% fill factor diffractive microlens array with a 1D array of photodetectors for example, has produced a hybrid device with more than 200% improvement in light gathering capability.
